Fusion diesel mass air flow sensor

Evening. My 2011 Ford Fusion diesel is playing up. It's done 104933 km. I'm getting through fuel like it's going out of style, it cuts out at idle, the check engine light's on and it's chucking out black smoke when I put my foot down. Suspect the mass air flow meter is shot. Anyone had similar?

Sounds familiar. Had almost exactly the same symptoms with my old Vauxhall Astra a while back. I was convinced it was something major, but turned out to be a faulty sensor. Was fuel economy really bad, or just noticeably worse than usual?

Worse than usual, definitely. I'm having to fill up twice a week now. So, was it actually the mass air flow sensor in your case then?

Yeah, it was the mass air flow sensor in the air intake. Swapped it out and it was fine. But if you're sure that's it, might be best to take it to a decent workshop. Let them confirm it's that before you start throwing money at it.

Cheers. Dropped it into the local garage, and you were spot on. It was the mass air flow sensor. 365€ all in. Runs like a dream now!
