Fusion Hybrid Transmission Issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2012 Ford Fusion Hybrid (152k kilometers). Sometimes the car won't start, almost like it's not in Park. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed the transmission slipping or shifting kinda rough lately. I scanned it and got a transmission error code. Could this be a faulty transmission sensor or something related to the park brake?

I had a similar issue with my Fusion Hybrid (not sure of the exact build year). The symptoms you describe, particularly the 'not starting in Park' and the check engine light, sound familiar. Did the error code specifically mention the transmission control unit? Sometimes a bad transmission sensor can cause erratic shifting and prevent the car from starting if it doesn't correctly register the gear position.

That's interesting! Yes, the error code pointed towards the transmission control unit. What was your fix, and how much did it set you back?

In my case, the error was pointing to a defective control unit. Sadly, I wasn't able to solve the issue myself and had to bring it to a workshop. They replaced the control unit. Given your symptoms and the error code, a defective control unit is highly probable. You should let the car be examined in a garage. That’s probably the best course of action, even though it's the more expensive one.

Thanks for the insights! I took it to my local shop, and they confirmed it was indeed the transmission control unit. The bill came out to be around 1000€ for the replacement and labor. Appreciate the help in narrowing down the issue!
