G Klasse Electrical Gremlins Software Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Mercedes G Klasse is experiencing electrical malfunctions, with the navigation system being non-functional, attributed to a software malfunction. The suspected cause is a corrupted software module within a control unit, potentially due to implausible programming. A suggested solution is to perform a software reset, estimated to cost 240€, after a thorough diagnostic by a workshop to confirm the issue and ensure the reset is the appropriate fix.

Thanks for the quick response. I only used a basic OBDII scanner. Which control unit gave you problems, and what were the exact error codes you retrieved with the advanced scan? It would be helpful to determine how similar our issues are. Before getting a software reset, I'm wondering if there are other things I should consider.

I don't recall the specific control unit involved or the exact error codes, unfortunately. It happened a while back. However, the symptoms you describe are virtually identical to what I experienced. The software reset did resolve the issue, though. Considering the estimated cost of 240€, it's probably worth having a workshop run a diagnostic on the car. They'll be able to pinpoint the faulty module and confirm if a software program or reset is the appropriate solution. It's always best to be certain before authorizing any work.

Thank you for confirming. It seems the software reset is indeed the way to go. I'll take it to a shop to get a proper diagnostic and have the control unit reprogrammed. Hopefully, that will resolve the electrical gremlins and bring my navigation system back to life.

I had a similar experience with my G Klasse, although mine is a bit newer. The navigation going dark is a classic symptom. It often points to a corrupted software module within one of the control units. The electrical malfunctions you describe could be related, as many systems are interconnected. Did you try running a full system scan with a more advanced onboard diagnostics tool? A basic code reader might not pick up all the relevant shadow codes.
