G Klasse O2 Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
The main issue discussed is an intermittent check engine light and increased fuel consumption in a 2003 Mercedes G Klasse, linked to an O2 sensor error code (P0130). Possible causes include a failing O2 sensor or a bad cable or plug connection. Suggested solutions involve checking for physical damage or corrosion, testing the sensor's voltage output, and consulting the repair manual for specifications. Ultimately, it is recommended to have a qualified workshop diagnose and replace the sensor to prevent further problems.

The error code is P0130, meaning an O2 sensor circuit malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 1). I haven't tested the voltage output yet. What's the expected voltage range, and where should I test on the sensor?

Given the error code and vehicle age, the O2 sensor is likely failing. Voltage ranges vary by sensor and engine management system. Check the Mercedes repair manual for your 2003 G Klasse's specifications. I suggest a qualified workshop for diagnosis and replacement. Driving with a bad O2 sensor can cause more problems. I had a workshop do the work to be sure.

I appreciate the advice. I'll check the repair manual and get the O2 sensor diagnosed and replaced at a good workshop. Thanks for confirming my thoughts about the exhaust sensor and connection issue. The repair cost of 95€ seems reasonable.

I had a similar issue with my BMW 5 series. Your symptoms point to a failing O2 sensor. A bad cable or plug is possible, but consider the sensor's age. They degrade and hurt fuel efficiency. Have you checked for physical damage or corrosion? Test the O2 sensor's voltage output with a multimeter. What specific error code is it reporting?
