G20 Headlight Washer & Wiper Pump Mystery Needs Solving

Hey there, got a problem with my 2001 Infiniti G (221k km) that's making me nervous after a previous bad mechanic experience. The headlight cleaning system stopped working completely, and I suspect it might be related to a rear window wiper fluid pump signal error. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any recommendations for reliable mechanics who've fixed this kind of issue? Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a problem with a 2001 Infiniti G's headlight cleaning system, which stopped working and was suspected to be linked to a rear window wiper fluid pump signal error. A similar issue was shared by another person with an Infiniti M45, where the problem was traced to corroded pump cable connections and a failing relay. The solution involved cleaning the connections and replacing the relay, which resolved the issue. Following this advice, the problem was fixed by a mechanic specializing in Infiniti systems, confirming the initial suspicion and restoring the washer systems to full functionality.

Hey! I had a similar issue with my 2004 Infiniti M45. The headlight washer system failed completely, and the diagnostic showed it was indeed connected to the pump relay circuit. Had it fixed at my regular garage last month turned out the pump cable connection was corroded and the relay was failing intermittently. Not a major repair actually the mechanic cleaned the connections, replaced the relay, and checked the entire washer system circuit. The headlight washers have been working perfectly since then. The rear washer pump was also affected because both systems share some electrical components. If you're getting a signal error, it's likely the same issue. These systems are pretty robust, but connectors can deteriorate over time, especially with high mileage. Make sure whoever checks it knows Infiniti electrical systems well.

Thanks for sharing that info! I'm relieved to hear it wasn't too complicated. Did you remember roughly how much it set you back for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the washer system?

Hey again! Yeah, I can definitely update you on that. I got it fixed last month, and I'm happy to report it cost me exactly 165€ honestly, it was pretty reasonable considering how annoying that error signal was! The best part is that since the repair, both the headlight washers and the rear window system have been working like a charm. That pesky rear window wiper fluid pump signal error is completely gone now. Turned out it was exactly what my mechanic suspected just a faulty pump cable connection and relay issue. Pretty straightforward fix once they knew what they were looking for. I haven't noticed any other quirks with the washer system since then everything's been running smooth as silk on my M45. Just a heads up though if you're getting similar symptoms, definitely get it checked sooner rather than later. These things can sometimes lead to bigger issues if left too long. But in my case, it was a relatively simple fix and totally worth it!

What a relief! Thanks so much for all the details that price sounds way better than what I was worried about. I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and you were spot on about getting it checked quickly. Took your advice and found a shop that specializes in Infiniti systems. Funny enough, my issue was almost identical to yours corroded connections and a worn-out relay. Total bill came to around 180€, which included them doing a full check of the washer system. They had it done in about two hours, and now both the headlight washers and rear system are working perfectly. No more annoying error signals! Really appreciate you sharing your experience helped me avoid another sketchy mechanic situation. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! Time to enjoy my fully functioning car again
