Galaxy Gear Shift Indicator Problem

My 2009 Ford Galaxy, gasoline engine, has an unresponsive gear shift indicator display and I can't engage the gears. The automatic transmission slips, shifts uncleanly, and makes grinding noises. Error memory shows a dead gear selection display in the speedometer. Could it be a defective control unit?

Sounds frustrating! Is the shift knob moving freely, or does it feel stuck? Have you checked the fuses related to the transmission control module?

The shift knob moves without resistance. I haven't checked the fuses yet. Which fuse location should I check, and what amperage should it be?

Given the symptoms, especially the grinding noises and dead display, a faulty control unit is plausible. I'd check the fuses, but honestly, it's probably time to get it to a workshop. This could be a deep dive.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I feared it was more than just a fuse. My mechanic confirmed the transmission control unit was fried. Repair cost 1000€, but at least it's running smoothly again!
