Galloper Brake Fluid Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Hyundai Galloper owner noticed a drop in brake fluid and a spongy brake pedal feel, suspecting a master cylinder issue. Another person suggested checking the rear brake cylinders, known for slow leaks that are hard to detect. Upon inspection, the rear cylinders were indeed leaking, leading to their replacement and resolving the issue after a professional repair.

Rear cylinders, eh? Good shout. I'll have a proper look this weekend. Is it a 'strip down and rebuild' job, or are we talking 'replace the whole unit'? And did you notice any other symptoms, or was it just the fluid level and pedal feel?

For me, it was definitely replace the whole unit. By the time I realised, the insides were corroded. I think you might want to visit a workshop, if you don't know what you are doing. Trust me, with brakes you want to be 100% sure. I had a similar cost.

Thanks for the tip. You were spot on. Took it to the shop, they confirmed the rear cylinders were leaking. Replaced them, new fluid, bleed the system and it's all sorted. Cost me 480€ in the end, but well worth it for peace of mind.

I had something similar with my Galloper. Brake fluid disappearing act, and the pedal felt like stepping on a marshmallow. Check your rear brake cylinders! They're notorious for leaking, and it's often a slow weep that's hard to spot initially. Are you topping up the fluid often?
