Galloper engine power loss
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Hyundai Galloper experienced a lack of engine power, rough running, and jerking during acceleration, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause was a lean running condition, possibly due to a defective injector. After consulting a mechanic, it was confirmed that the issue was indeed defective fuel injectors, which were replaced, resolving the problem.

Can you tell me what tests you did to find the bad EGR valve on your Skoda? Did any error codes or sensor readings stand out? Can I do these tests myself, or should I see a mechanic?

I visually checked the EGR valve for carbon, but I didn't have the tools for a full diagnosis. The error codes were generic, just indicating an air-fuel mixture problem, not the EGR valve specifically. I took it to a workshop, since I didn't want to cause more damage. I'd recommend a visit to the workshop.

Following your advice, I saw a mechanic. They confirmed it was defective fuel injectors. The repair was 515€, including parts and labor. It's running well now.

I had similar issues with my 2012 Skoda Octavia diesel – reduced power, check engine light, rough running, and jerking. For me, it was a malfunctioning EGR valve messing with the air-fuel ratio. Have you checked the EGR valve, mass air flow sensor, or intake manifold/throttle body? Checking the air-fuel ratio would help.
