Getz Belt Tensioner Failure
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2002 Hyundai Getz experiencing a belt handover issue, suspected to be caused by a faulty belt tensioner. Symptoms include belt squealing and visible wear, indicating the tensioner might not be properly tensioning the belt. A suggestion is made to inspect the tensioner and idler pulleys for wear or damage. Ultimately, a workshop confirms the tensioner pulley was defective, and replacing it resolved the issue.

Squealing a bit, yeah. Wear is present. So you're saying it's definitely the tensioner?

While I cannot provide a definitive diagnosis without a thorough inspection, the symptoms you describe—belt squeal and observed wear—strongly suggest the tensioner is the primary suspect. Given the potential complexity of the serpentine belt system and its critical role in automobile maintenance, I'd recommend consulting a qualified technician to confirm the diagnosis and perform the necessary repairs.

Thanks for the insight. Workshop confirmed it; tensioner pulley was shot. Cost me 455€ to replace. All good now.

I've encountered similar issues on a Getz. Is the belt squealing, especially during cold starts or when the engine is under load? Have you inspected the tensioner pulley and idler pulley for any signs of wear or damage? A defective belt tensioner can certainly cause belt handover problems, as the belt isn't being properly tensioned.
