Gienia Defective Exhaust Flap
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Honda Gienia is experiencing louder exhaust noise and a noisy engine after a cold start, with an error related to the exhaust flaps. The likely cause is a defective exhaust flap, possibly due to the flap actuator motor or an exhaust blockage. The recommended solution is to take the vehicle to a workshop for proper diagnosis and repair, which confirmed the defective flap and resolved the issue.

The noise seems more prominent at lower RPMs and during cold starts. When the engine warms up, it becomes less noticeable, but it's still there. How can I best check the flap actuator motor?

Yep, classic symptoms. Honestly, unless you have the diagnostic tools, checking the actuator properly is tricky. Given the symptoms and mileage, it's probably the flap itself seizing up. Bite the bullet and take it to a workshop; they'll confirm and get it sorted way faster.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the workshop, and you were right – defective exhaust flap. Repair cost came to 190€. Problem solved.

Sounds like a common issue with those flaps! Had similar problems on my old Civic. Is the noise constant, or does it change with engine RPM? Could be the flap actuator motor too. Check for exhaust blockage; that also can cause weird noises.
