GLA Coolant Level Dropping Fast Engine Light On

I've got a 2016 Mercedes GLA with a gasoline engine and about 58k kilometers on it. Recently the check engine light popped on and I noticed the coolant level is way low. I checked the error memory and it points to some electrical issue with a component. Could a defective cable or plug connection really cause this? I'm worried it's something serious like a head gasket or air pockets causing engine overheating. I don't see any obvious leaks around the coolant reservoir or water pump. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my GLA. Check for coolant leaks around the thermostat housing. Sometimes they're hard to spot. If the coolant is low, it could trigger the check engine light.

Thanks for the tip. Did your check engine light come on immediately when the coolant dropped, or did it take a while? Also, was the leak obvious, or did you have to really hunt for it?

It took a little while for the light to come on. The leak wasn't obvious at first, I only noticed the smell of coolant. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was a faulty connection as suspected, plus a small leak near the thermostat. Repair cost was 95€, so not too bad. Thanks again!
