It clicks but doesn't crank So are you saying a simple safety switch can cause these issues Just seems wild that a single relatively inexpensive part could cripple so many systems

Yes it's wild but that safety switch is a critical component The car's computer sees it as a major fault triggering all sorts of failsafe measures If it's just clicking and not cranking that reinforces the faulty switch diagnosis The gear selector issue and cruise control are linked because the car needs that clutch signal to function correctly Honestly I'd say don't mess with it too much yourself Given the potential complexity of the electrical system it's probably best to take it to a workshop They can properly diagnose it and replace the switch The repair cost shouldn't be too bad It was about 95€ in my case

Thanks a lot for confirming Knowing it's likely the same issue you had puts my mind at ease I'll book it in at the workshop I appreciate the help

That sounds incredibly frustrating especially on such a new vehicle I had a similar issue with my GLA though I can't recall the exact build year The symptoms you describe – the gear selector going haywire cruise control failing and the ignition problem – definitely point towards that clutch pedal switch It's all tied into the car's safety mechanism Is the engine cranking at all when it refuses to start or is it completely dead Have you inspected the cable and plug connection of the component yourself
