Thanks for the reply! No specific code, just a general lateral acceleration sensor fault. How did you figure out it was the control unit and not just the sensor itself in your BMW?

Well, I initially thought it was just the sensor, but after replacing it the problem came back after a day. The mechanic then did some more detailed diagnostics and found the electronic control unit wasn't sending the correct signals to the sensor. It was a pain to diagnose. Honestly, I think you should probably take it to a workshop. They'll be able to check the steering angle, yaw rate, and all those other fun things with proper diagnostic tools. It might save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. Turns out you were right, the affected control unit was defective. Cost me about 1000€ to repair. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series, although it was a different sensor. The ABS light kept popping up, and the car felt a bit unstable during cornering. The diagnostic scan also pointed to a sensor fault. Did your scan give you any specific codes? Have you checked the steering angle or yaw rate readings? Mine ended up being an issue with the electronic control unit, which affected the sensor readings. It triggered a safety warning too.
