GLC audio system failure

My 2016 Mercedes GLC with a Gasoline engine has a non functioning audio system with over 222402 km Lately, the audio system has completely stopped working. No sound at all. The dashboard controls light up and seem responsive but nothing comes out of the car speakers. I even tried adjusting the volume control, but still silence. I ran a diagnostic and it shows an error stored in the error memory related to the head unit. A local shop suspects the display is defective and quoted me around 725€ for the repair. Has anyone else experienced something similar? Any ideas or suggestions?

I understand you are experiencing issues with your Mercedes GLC's audio system. I had a comparable problem with a BMW 3 Series a few years ago. The symptoms you describe, including the error code and lack of audio output, do point towards a potential head unit failure. Has there been any recent work done on the vehicle, or any unusual electrical events?

Thanks for the reply. No recent work done, and no unusual electrical events that I'm aware of. Everything was working fine one day, and then the next time I started the car, complete silence. When you say 'head unit failure,' are you referring to the main display screen itself? Or is there another component I should be looking at?

Yes, the 'head unit' refers to the main display screen, which integrates the radio, navigation, and other audio functions. Given the sudden onset and the error code, it is likely an internal component failure within the head unit itself. If a diagnostic confirms this and the repair cost is as quoted, replacement by a certified workshop is advisable.

Okay, that confirms my suspicions. I appreciate you clarifying what the head unit is. I will take it to the shop and have them replace the display. Thanks for your help!
