GLC Hybrid Generator Issues

My 2021 Mercedes GLC hybrid is causing problems. It has about 247713 km. I'm getting a reduced engine power warning and the battery light is on. It's struggling to start at times, and the lights are flickering. My reader says it's a generator fault. Has anyone else experienced this? Could a worn serpentine belt be the cause before I check the starter motor, charging system, or voltage drop? The repair might cost around 960€.

The symptoms you're describing do point to a defective generator. Before you replace it, carefully check the serpentine belt and its tensioner. Also, see if there are any signs of an engine misfire, as that can seem like charging problems.

Thanks. If there's an engine misfire, would that cause the generator to fail early, or would it just mess with the voltage readings?

Misfires can put a strain on the charging system because they increase the electrical demand. Check the generator's output before replacing it to make sure the error isn't just a false alarm from the misfire. But with that error code, it probably is a bad generator.

Thanks for the advice. I verified the generator was faulty after more tests. I replaced it, and now everything is working as it should. I appreciate the tips about the serpentine belt and the possibility of an engine misfire.
