GLE Hybrid Cruise Control Problem

My 2021 Mercedes GLE hybrid has developed a rather inconvenient fault. The cruise control has ceased functioning entirely. Diagnostics reveal an error stored in the memory, pointing towards a defective cable or plug connection within the system. I have checked the usual suspects – brake light switch functionality, throttle position sensor readings, and the steering wheel controls themselves. All appear to be in order. I even checked for a blown fuse related to the cruise control system, but found none. Before I delve deeper, has anyone experienced a similar issue, or can offer insights into specific areas prone to connection failures within the cruise control circuit of this model?

Intermittent cruise control failures can be tricky. Since you've covered the basics, consider the analogy of a chain: even a small weak link can break the whole thing. Have you inspected the wiring harness near the steering column? Sometimes, repeated movement can cause chafing or broken wires there. Also, is the error code you're seeing specific, or more generic? A more precise code could pinpoint the exact location of the fault.

The error code is somewhat vague, unfortunately – something along the lines of "cruise control system malfunction." Regarding the wiring harness near the steering column, is there a specific connector or area within that harness that is known to be problematic on the GLE? I'd prefer to avoid dismantling the entire column unnecessarily.

A vague error code definitely makes things more difficult. Given the lack of a specific code and your thorough checks, it's likely a more subtle wiring issue or a fault within the cruise control module itself. Think of it like diagnosing a ghost in the machine. While I can't pinpoint an exact location, based on the symptoms and your diagnostic efforts, a professional diagnosis at a qualified workshop is the most prudent course of action. They have specialized tools to isolate intermittent electrical faults.

Understood. I appreciate the insights. I took it to my local independent Mercedes mechanic, and as you suspected, it was a chafed wire within the steering column harness. The repair, including labor and a new connector, came to 95€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
