GLE transmission issue resolved

My 2015 Mercedes GLE with a gasoline engine has 253844 kilometers. The engine or transmission warning light is on. Diagnostics show an error related to the transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox seems to be in emergency mode, with slippage, rough shifts, and grinding noises. Low gearbox oil might be a factor. Any thoughts?

That sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Volvo, though it was related to the transmission sensor. Is the behavior similar to a computer overheating and slowing down to protect itself?

Thank you for your response. Could you elaborate on the specific symptoms you experienced with your Volvo and how they relate to the transmission sensor? I am trying to ascertain the degree of overlap between our respective situations.

With the Volvo, the shifts were jerky and unpredictable. It would sometimes get stuck in a gear. Eventually, I took it to a workshop. They confirmed the transmission sensor was faulty and replaced it.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. I took it to a workshop, and after a thorough inspection, the diagnosis indeed pointed towards a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The repair, encompassing the replacement of the sensor and replenishment of the transmission oil, amounted to 365€. The vehicle now operates as intended.
