GLK Passenger Seat Unresponsive

My 2008 Mercedes GLK with a gasoline engine is exhibiting a problem The passenger electric seat is completely unresponsive. I've scanned the car and there's an error stored in the error memory related to the seat adjustment. The mileage is currently at 119638 km. I suspect it might be something simple, but the seat adjustment is just not working. I've checked the fuses, and they appear to be in order. Could a heavily discharged or defective battery cause this issue? Any thoughts on this automotive seat issue?

Summary of the thread

The passenger electric seat in a 2008 Mercedes GLK was unresponsive, with an error code related to seat adjustment. Initial checks of the fuses and battery voltage were suggested, along with inspecting the seat switch for dirty or corroded contacts. After these steps didn't resolve the issue, a workshop diagnosed a fault in the seat motor, which was repaired for 290€, resolving the problem.

I had a similar issue with my GLK and the electric seat. The symptoms sound familiar. Have you checked the seat switch itself? Sometimes the contacts get dirty or corroded. It's like a dimmer switch on a light, if the connection is poor, it won't work. Also, what is the battery voltage when the engine is off?

Thank you for the reply. I haven't checked the seat switch itself yet; that's a good point. I assumed it was something more complex since there was an error code. Where exactly is the seat switch located and how would I go about checking the contacts for corrosion? As for the battery, I will check the voltage and report back. Is there a specific voltage I should be looking for?

The seat switch is usually integrated into the seat itself, often on the side. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the seat as well. Regarding the battery, a healthy battery should read around 12.6 volts when the engine is off. If it's significantly lower, that could indeed be your problem. However, given the error code, it's advisable to consult a workshop if cleaning the contacts and checking the battery doesn't resolve the electric seat problem.

Understood. I appreciate the advice. After checking the battery voltage and cleaning the seat switch contacts without success, I took it to a workshop. The diagnostic confirmed a fault within the seat motor itself. The repair cost was 290€. All is working well now.
