GLS fuel flap issue

My 2016 Mercedes GLS with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. The fuel flap release isn't working. I'm getting an error in the memory and can't lock or unlock the fuel filler flap. Plus, some other functions seem unavailable. Could this be a defective linkage or cable release? The system suggested eventual repair cost: 210€. I think it may be the electric actuator or the release mechanism, maybe even just the release button. Any thoughts?

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot, though the symptoms weren't quite as extensive. In my case, it turned out to be a corroded cable release. Have you checked the fuse for the fuel flap electric actuator? Sometimes it's the simple things.

Good shout on the fuse, I will check that first thing tomorrow. Where exactly was the cable corroded on your Peugeot? Was it near the release button or closer to the fuel flap itself?

On the Peugeot, it was closer to the fuel flap. But honestly, checking the fuse is the best first step. If the fuse is fine, it might be more complex. You could try looking at the release mechanism itself, but realistically, it's probably best to get it checked out at a workshop, as they have the proper tools and diagnostics.

Thanks for the advice. Fuse was fine, but the workshop confirmed it was a faulty electric actuator. Replaced it, and everything's working again. Appreciate the help!
