Grand Voyager Tailgate Gets Stuck & Shows Error Code

Looking for advice on a power tailgate problem with my 2001 GrandVoyager Diesel (69864km). The tailgate stops halfway when opening and throws an error code. Had a less than stellar experience with my last mechanic, so I want to make sure I get this fixed right. Suspect it might be a tailgate sensor fault or sensor wiring issue. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and repair cost in your case?

Had the same tailgate motor problem on my 2004 GrandVoyager CRD Diesel with similar symptoms. The tailgate would stop midway and display error codes. After inspection, the main issue was traced to corroded wiring connections near the tailgate motor sensor. The root cause was water infiltration that damaged the electrical sensor connections over time. The repair involved: Complete inspection of the tailgate wiring harness, Replacement of damaged connector pins, Sensor calibration after repairs, Testing of the complete opening/closing cycle This turned out to be a common fault with these models. The vehicle sensor system needs proper connection to function, and corrosion in the wiring can trigger false readings. The tailgate motor itself was fine, just the electrical connections needed attention. The repair was moderately complex since accessing the wiring harness required partial removal of interior panels. Would recommend having a shop with diagnostic equipment handle this, as proper sensor calibration is needed after the repair. This was not a serious mechanical issue, but leaving it unfixed could lead to complete tailgate failure or potential damage to the motor from repeated fault conditions.

Thanks for that detailed explanation of the wiring issue. Had exactly this problem with my 2002 Chrysler GrandVoyager and got it fixed after multiple attempts to diagnose. The hall sensor readings were all over the place before the repair. Curious what repair costs you ended up paying? Mine needed a full wiring harness replacement near the tailgate since the corrosion had spread quite far. Also wondering if youve had any issues since the fix or if the sensor calibration has held up well?

Since having the automatic tailgate repaired at the shop, everything has worked perfectly. The hall sensor fault was resolved by fixing a bad cable connection, no need for a complete harness replacement in my case. The repair bill came to 95€, which included diagnostic time and fixing the corroded connector. The vehicle sensor calibration has held up well over the past months with no error codes or operation issues. Regular testing shows consistent hall sensor readings now that the wiring is properly connected. I was fortunate that the corrosion was caught early before it could spread through the entire sensor wiring system. Based on your description, it sounds like your case was more severe since it required full harness replacement. But at least the underlying sensor fault symptoms were similar enough that it helped point to the right diagnosis area. These tailgate sensor issues can be tricky to pinpoint without proper diagnostic equipment.

After getting multiple recommendations pointing to electrical issues, I finally took my GrandVoyager to a certified shop. The mechanic found extensive corrosion in the tailgate wiring, which was causing the sensor fault codes. My case required a complete wiring harness replacement since the damage was widespread. The total repair came to 380€, including: New wiring harness, Electrical sensor replacement, Full diagnostic scan, Sensor calibration work Though more expensive than a simple connection fix, the automatic tailgate now works flawlessly. The vehicle sensor readings are stable and no more error codes appear during operation. Looking back, I should have addressed this earlier before the corrosion spread through the entire system. At least the problem is properly fixed now. The detailed electrical diagnostic work was worth it to finally resolve the intermittent sensor issues. Definitely learned my lesson about getting these types of problems checked out sooner rather than later.
