Thanks for sharing your experience with the Chrysler 300C transmission issues. The automotive electronics problems you described sound very similar to what my GrandVoyager is experiencing with the gear selector malfunction. Did you remember roughly how much the total repair cost came to? Also curious if the sensor problem with the gear indicator stayed fixed or if you had any recurring transmission control issues after the repair? The instrument panel in mine is still acting up and I want to budget properly for the fix.

Just to update on the repair costs since you asked, it came to exactly 1000€ for replacing and programming the defective control unit. The transmission sensor problem and gear shift indicator on the electronic display have worked flawlessly since the repair. The digital display now shows the correct gear position every time, and the shift knob engages properly without any of the previous grinding or rough shifting issues. The transmission specialist did a thorough job diagnosing and fixing the automotive electronics, and I have not experienced any recurring problems with the control unit or gear selection system in the months since. Getting it fixed by a proper transmission expert rather than a general mechanic was definitely worth it for a permanent solution to the shifting problems. Going to a specialist might seem more expensive initially, but considering how critical proper transmission control is, it likely prevented much costlier damage down the road. The electronic components in these transmissions are fairly complex and need proper diagnostic equipment to repair correctly.

Wanted to update on my repair experience. Took the GrandVoyager to a transmission specialist who properly diagnosed the gear selector and sensor problem. The electronic display issues were exactly what they expected to find based on the symptoms. The total repair came to 1350€, which included: New transmission control module, Full diagnostic scan, Reprogramming of the gear shift system, Labor costs The transmission is now shifting smoothly with no grinding sounds. The gear selector moves correctly and the instrument panel shows the proper gear position. Really glad I went with a transmission expert instead of risking more damage at a general repair shop. The specialist explained the automotive electronics needed specialized diagnostic tools they had on hand. Makes sense why my regular mechanic struggled with this issue. No recurring problems so far after 2 weeks of driving. While the repair cost more than expected, having a properly functioning transmission is worth the investment. The grinding noises were apparently a warning sign of potential major damage if left unfixed.

Faced similar symptoms on my 2005 Chrysler 300C with the 3.5L engine. The gear shift problems typically stem from the transmission control module failing to properly communicate with the gear selector and digital display system. In my case, the grinding sounds and rough shifting turned out to be a combination of issues. The main problem was a defective transmission control unit that was no longer reading the gear selector position correctly. This caused the electronic display to malfunction and the transmission to engage gears improperly. The repair required: Replacing the transmission control module, Reprogramming the new control unit, Calibrating the gear selector position sensors, Clearing all transmission-related error codes This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as continuing to drive with these symptoms risks severe transmission damage. The grinding sounds indicate the gears are not engaging properly, which can destroy the internal transmission components. These symptoms are common in this generation of Chrysler transmissions. Would strongly recommend having it diagnosed at a transmission specialist rather than a general mechanic, as they have the specific diagnostic tools needed for the electronic systems.
