GT86 AC Failure

Friends, my 2020 Toyota GT86 with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The AC is completely dead, refuses to switch on. A warning light is on, and a diagnostic check reveals an error. With 97112 km on the clock, could this be the AC control unit? Any advice before I surrender my wallet to the repair shop?

I feel your pain! I had a similar issue with my GT86. The symptoms sound eerily familiar: no AC, warning light, and an error code. Did you notice if the compressor was making any unusual noises before it quit? Or perhaps any burning smells?

That's insightful, thank you! Now that you mention it, there was a faint burning smell a few weeks prior, almost like hot plastic, but I dismissed it. No unusual compressor noises that I recall, though. Was your issue definitely the control unit, or something else entirely?

The burning smell is a very bad sign... In my case, after chasing gremlins for what felt like an eternity, it turned out that the AC control unit was indeed the culprit. Given your symptoms and that smell, I'd bet good money that's where your problem lies too. I'm afraid a trip to a reputable workshop is unavoidable to get it properly diagnosed and replaced. Expect to pay around 980€.

Okay, your experience has been invaluable; I really appreciate it! I'll schedule an appointment with my trusted mechanic. Based on your input, I’m mentally prepared for the control unit replacement and the associated cost. Thanks again for the insights!
