GT86 Fault Memory Lock Active

I'm having an issue with my 2013 Toyota GT86 (gasoline engine). I've noticed the 'fault memory lock active' message during ECU diagnostics. The only symptom is the error being stored. I suspect it might be due to undervoltage. Has anyone else encountered this? Any advice on where to start?

I had a similar problem with my 2016 BMW 3 series. Same error message during diagnostics, and I was chasing my tail trying to figure it out. It turned out to be a flaky battery causing voltage drops that messed with the ECU. Have you checked your battery's health and charging system?

Thanks! I haven't specifically checked the battery beyond a visual inspection. When you say 'flaky battery', did it show any other symptoms, or was it just the ECU error? Also, what steps did you take to diagnose the issue further?

My BMW didn't show any obvious signs of a dying battery, like slow cranking. The only clue was the intermittent ECU errors. I'd suggest getting your battery load tested. If it's weak, that's probably your culprit. Otherwise, it could be a wiring issue. It's probably best to take it to a workshop if the battery checks out OK.

You were spot on! I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be exactly what you described - a failing battery causing undervoltage issues. They replaced the battery and cleared the fault codes. Everything seems to be running smoothly now. Total repair cost: 240€.
