GX Gearbox Slipping

Hi, I have a 2004 Lexus GX with a gasoline engine and 95154 km on the clock. I think I have a transfer case oil wear fault. The gearbox slips/shifts uncleanly. Could this be defective gears?

Hey, I drive a GX too. Gearbox issues are never fun. Is the gear oil level correct? Maybe check for oil leakage first. Grinding noises can also point to transfer fluid problems. Have you checked that?

Thanks, I will check that. I was wondering if it's worth just changing the gear oil first?

Worth a shot, I suppose. But when mine was slipping like that, the fresh oil didn't solve the problem. Turned out the gears were indeed defective, and needed professional attention. I'd suggest getting it looked at by a workshop before things get worse.

Thanks for the info. Dropped it off at a shop, you were right, defective gears. Repair cost 330€. Appreciate the help.
