H1 Brake Fluid Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Hyundai H1 diesel is experiencing brake fluid loss and unusual brake pedal feedback, with no visible leaks found. A possible cause suggested is worn brake pads, which can lead to the pistons extending further and requiring more fluid, thus lowering the reservoir level. The brake warning light flickers occasionally, indicating potential brake issues. The recommended solution is a professional brake inspection, which confirmed worn brake pads, leading to their replacement and fluid replenishment.

That's an interesting analogy. The brake warning light flickers occasionally, yes. How severe was the fluid drop in your case? Did it require frequent top-ups, or was it a gradual decline? I'm trying to gauge if this is indeed just worn pads or something more sinister.

The light was on and off, and the level dropped noticeably over a few weeks. I topped it up once, but the problem came back. I'm no mechanic, but given the symptoms and mileage, I'd strongly suggest taking it to a workshop to have the brakes properly inspected. It's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to brakes. I ended up with fluid replacement.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I took your advice and had the brakes inspected. As suspected, the front brake pads were indeed worn significantly, and the rear ones weren't far behind. Total repair cost, including new pads and a fluid replacement, came to 480€. Your insights were invaluable.

I had something similar with my H1. Does the brake warning light come on intermittently? It could be something as simple as worn brake pads. As they wear, the pistons in the calipers extend further, requiring more fluid from the master cylinder, which lowers the level in the reservoir. Think of it like a well that's running dry because you're drawing more water.
