Headlight and Windshield Washer Systems Not Working

Thanks for the quick reply! When you mention 'relay,' what does that do, and where would I find it? I'm good with tools, but electrical stuff is tricky. Also, is there a good way to check for a leak without waiting for a puddle to form?

A relay is basically an electrically operated switch. It allows a small current to control a larger one, like the power going to the pump. The relay for the washer system is usually in the fuse box, often under the hood. The owner's manual should have a diagram. As for the leak, look for dampness around the reservoir and along the hoses leading to the nozzles. If you're not comfortable troubleshooting the electrical side, a workshop visit might be the best bet to prevent further problems.

I took your advice and brought it in. Turns out you were spot on! It was a bad connection at the pump. They cleaned it, replaced a short section of corroded wire, and now everything is working perfectly again. Grand total: 165€. Thanks for steering me in the right direction!

That's a bummer. Since both the headlight washers and windshield washers are failing, it points to a common component. Often, they share the same pump. A defective cable connection to the pump or relay is a prime suspect. Locate the washer fluid reservoir and trace the wires leading from the pump. See if anything looks loose or corroded. Have you checked the fluid level itself? A leak might cause the pump to run dry and eventually burn out.
