Headlight range control fault on GT Roadster

My 2019 Mercedes GT Roadster with a gasoline engine is throwing a headlight range control fault. The error is stored, and the warning light is on. The low beam acts like a spotlight either shining too low or too high. I suspect a defective servomotor in the headlight itself. I've checked the electrical connectors I could easily access, but everything seems firmly in place. Has anyone faced similar beam adjustment or auto-leveling issues? Any thoughts on the light intensity control playing a role? Initial workshop estimates are around 1040€.

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Mercedes GT Roadster is experiencing a headlight range control fault, with the low beam acting erratically. The issue may be due to a defective servomotor or possibly corrosion within the electrical connectors. A similar case was resolved by cleaning the contacts inside the connectors. A diagnostic check is recommended to confirm the cause and potentially avoid costly repairs.

That sounds similar to what I went through with my GT Roadster. I remember the frustration of the misaligned beams and the persistent warning light. Did you check the wiring harness leading into the headlight assembly itself? In my case, there was some corrosion within the connector, even though it looked fine from the outside. It might be worth a closer inspection before you resign yourself to replacing the servomotor. Does the beam only shine too low or high, or can't it adjust dynamically?

I only gave the connectors a cursory glance. The beam adjustment issue is intermittent; sometimes it points correctly, sometimes it's too low, and other times too high. It seems totally random. The error code consistently points to the servomotor, but perhaps that's a symptom of a deeper electrical gremlin. Did your issue present the same way, and was corrosion inside the connector the ultimate culprit?

Yes, the behavior you describe is exactly what I experienced. Intermittent and seemingly random beam direction. I also focused on the servomotor first, but fortunately, after cleaning the contacts inside the electrical connectors with a contact cleaner it went away. I'd suggest a proper diagnostic check at the workshop, just to be on the safe side. It might save you a hefty bill if it's just a connection problem.

Thank you for sharing your experience! I truly appreciate the insight. I've booked it in for a proper diagnostic check, explicitly mentioning the possibility of connector corrosion. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's something simple and that the workshop will sort the issue out. Hopefully it won't cost me an arm and a leg.
