Help Needed: Thermostat Fault Code & Electrical Issues in Vauxhall Corsa

Hello Car Community, I am seeking advice for my 2013 Vauxhall Corsa D with a 1.2 petrol engine and 103,000 km mileage. I've been experiencing some issues and would appreciate any guidance. Current Symptoms: - Coolant level low warning. - Fault code P0597 – Thermostat Heater Control Circuit / Open. - Dashboard warning light remains on. - Side lights turn on automatically with ignition, even when the door is closed. Actions Taken: - Replaced the coolant temperature sensor. - Reconnected the radiator hose, which restored heat through the vents. - Performed a battery reset by disconnecting the negative terminal for 30 minutes. - Conducted an OBD2 scan, which still shows the P0597 fault code. Suspected Causes: - Faulty thermostat unit. - Possible issues with relay, BCM (Body Control Module), or related wiring. Could anyone advise on the next steps? Is this likely a thermostat replacement issue, or could it be more complex involving the electrical system? Thank you in advance for your help! Best regards, Ben

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Vauxhall Corsa D is experiencing issues including a low coolant warning, a persistent dashboard warning light, and automatic side lights activation. The fault code P0597 indicates a problem with the thermostat heater control circuit. Despite replacing the coolant temperature sensor and performing a battery reset, the issue persists. The suspected causes include a faulty thermostat unit or potential problems with the relay, BCM, or wiring. The recommended solution is to inspect and possibly replace the thermostat, and if the issue continues, further investigation into the electrical system may be needed.

I recommend starting by checking the thermostat itself, as the P0597 code often points to an issue with the thermostat heater control circuit. Inspect the thermostat for any visible damage or corrosion and ensure that the electrical connections are secure and free of corrosion. If the thermostat appears faulty, replacing it might resolve the issue. After replacing, clear the fault code and see if it returns. If the problem persists, further investigation into the wiring or BCM may be necessary. Please update on your progress or if you have further questions.
