HHR Cold Start Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Chevy HHR with 183,225 km is experiencing hard starts and rough running when cold, potentially due to a faulty injector. The issue could be related to fuel delivery problems, and it's suggested to rule out fuel pump issues before testing the injectors. A leakdown test on the injectors is recommended, which can be done by a professional for accurate diagnosis. Ultimately, a defective injector was identified and replaced, resolving the cold start issue.

A leakdown test? Can I do that myself, or should I take it to a shop?

A DIY leakdown test is possible, but requires specialized equipment and fuel injection knowledge. Given the symptoms and mileage, a faulty injector is likely. It might be best to have a shop perform a comprehensive injector test to accurately diagnose the issue and check the fuel rail.

Thanks for the advice. The shop found a defective injector. A new one fixed the cold start issue. Cost 515€, but worth it for a smooth start!

Cold start issues can be irritating. Rough running and poor starting point to a fuel delivery problem. Have you checked for engine misfires or unusual fuel consumption? Rule out fuel pump issues before injector testing. Can you perform a leakdown test on the injectors?
