Hiace check engine light fuel consumption

My 2012 Toyota Hiace with a gasoline engine is giving me headaches. The check engine light is on, and the fuel consumption has gone way up. I've only done 22589 km. Could the inlet VANOS mechanics be faulty? I suspect it's the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply issue.

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Hiace. Check engine light and suddenly guzzling fuel like crazy! Have you noticed any engine misfire or a weird drop in power at any point? Could be VANOS failure, that was my first thought when it happened to me. How does it run when the engine is cold?

Yeah, I've felt some engine misfire, especially when accelerating. It also feels like there's low power. Did the VANOS solenoid replacement fix it for you? What exactly was the problem with yours?

Okay, engine misfire and low power pretty much confirms it. I didn't try fixing mine myself, man. I took it straight to the workshop. It does sound like a VANOS solenoid issue or potentially something with the VANOS system itself. Better get it checked by a pro, these things can get messy fast! You will probably pay around 250€.

Thanks! That's super helpful. I'll take it to a mechanic and get the VANOS checked. I'll keep you updated. Turns out, you were right. I had to replace a faulty VANOS solenoid valve. Cost me 250€, but she's running like new again!
