Hiace engine stalling power loss

I'm having trouble with my 2016 Toyota Hiace, gasoline engine. It's only got 32305 km on it. The check engine light keeps coming on, and the engine occasionally stalls when idling. I've also noticed a reduction in engine power, especially when going uphill. I ran a diagnostic and it's pointing to a defective fuel volume regulator. From what I've read, it could be a high pressure pump issue. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice on what to check before I take it in?

That sounds familiar! I've got a Hiace myself, and I had similar symptoms a while back - engine light, stalling, and power loss. In my case, the issue also turned out to be related to the fuel system. It's like a circulatory system; if the pump is weak, the whole body suffers. Did the diagnostic tool give you any specific error codes?

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, it gave me the error code P0087 - Fuel Rail/System Pressure - Too Low. Does that match what you saw? I'm trying to figure out if there's anything else I can test myself before I take it to a workshop. It's just frustrating because the van is relatively new and hasn't even clocked that many miles.

Yep, P0087 was exactly the code I was getting. I tried a few things myself, like checking the fuel filter and lines, but ultimately, it turned out to be the high-pressure fuel pump. Given the symptoms and the error code, I'd say it's highly likely that's your problem too. It's probably best to get it checked by a professional; these fuel systems can be quite complex and require specialized tools to diagnose properly. I'd advise taking it to the workshop

Thanks so much for confirming that! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I took it to the workshop and they confirmed it was indeed the high-pressure fuel pump. The final repair cost came out to 1510€. Not ideal, but at least it's fixed now. Thanks again for your help!
