Hiace Exhaust Treatment Malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Toyota Hiace with a gasoline engine exhibited a constant check engine light, rough running, an exhaust leak, and a strong exhaust smell. The suspected cause was a defective lambda sensor. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the lambda sensor, which was confirmed as the problem in this case as well, leading to a successful repair.

The engine light is constant, not intermittent. What issues did you encounter with your Hiace, and how did you resolve them? Was it related to the EGR valve or perhaps the catalytic converter?

Yes, constant engine light, just like mine. My mechanic found that the lambda sensor was defective, which caused similar symptoms. I'd suggest visiting a workshop. Hopefully, it will be an easy fix for you as well.

Thank you for the insight. I took it to a workshop, and indeed, it was the lambda sensor. The repair cost 375€. Your advice helped confirm my suspicions and saved me time. Much appreciated.

Sounds familiar. Does the engine light come on intermittently, or is it constant? I have a Hiace as well, and I went through something like this a while back. What does the exhaust pipe look like?
