Hiace fuel rail pressure sensor issue

I've got a 2004 Toyota Hiace diesel with 158795 km. The check engine light is on, and the engine sometimes stalls at idle. I've also noticed a reduction in power. I suspect it might be the fuel rail pressure sensor signal. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had similar symptoms on my Hiace. The check engine light was on, and the engine felt like it was being choked, especially uphill. From what I could gather, the fuel injection system relies on the rail pressure sensor like a thermometer relies on temperature. Is the sensor faulty? Have you checked the sensor's wiring and connections before condemning the sensor itself?

Thanks for the info! I haven't checked the wiring yet, but I'll definitely give that a look. Any specific areas I should focus on when inspecting the wiring and connections?

The connector itself can sometimes be the culprit. Check for corrosion or loose pins. Also, trace the wiring back as far as you can, looking for any chafing or damage where it might rub against the engine or chassis. If that looks good, then it is likely the sensor is faulty. At this point, I would suggest taking it to a workshop. I replaced the fuel rail pressure sensor, and that fixed my problem.

Thanks a lot for your help! I followed your advice and checked the wiring, but it all seemed fine. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed it was the fuel rail pressure sensor. They replaced it, and the total cost was 240€. Now it runs great again!
