Hiace Oil Level Sensor Fault

I've got a 2010 Toyota Hiace, diesel engine, with about 78k km on the clock. Recently, I'm getting an error message on the speedometer, accompanied by the oil pressure warning lamp. The error memory also stores an 'oil level sensor signal faulty' error. I've checked the oil level manually, and it's fine. I suspect it's the oil level sensor itself or maybe a wiring issue. Anyone else run into this?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Toyota Hiace owner is experiencing an error message related to the oil level sensor, despite the oil level being fine. The issue is suspected to be either a faulty oil level sensor or a wiring problem. Suggestions include checking the wiring and plug connections for damage or corrosion and using a multimeter to test the connection. Ultimately, the problem was resolved by repairing a defective cable/plug connection at a workshop.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had something similar happen on my Hiace (though it's a bit older). Sounds like the oil level sensor is acting up. Those sensors can be real sensitive. I'd check the wiring and plug connection first, see if anything's loose or corroded. Is the error consistent, or does it come and go?

Cheers for the quick reply! I was leaning towards a connection issue. The error seems to be intermittent, comes and goes as it pleases. When you say check the plug connection, do you mean just visually inspect it, or is there a way to test it with a multimeter or something?

Visual inspection is a good start - look for any obvious damage, corrosion, or loose wires. Give it a wiggle to see if the error pops up. But yeah, ideally, you'd want to test the connection with a multimeter to see if you're getting a consistent signal. Honestly, if you're not super confident with electrical stuff, might be worth a quick trip to the workshop. Could save you a headache in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! Ended up taking it to the workshop. Turns out it was a defective cable/plug connection like we suspected. Cost me 95€ to get it sorted. Appreciate the help!
