Hilux Diesel Injection Problem

I'm having trouble with my 2005 Toyota Hilux diesel. It's only done 27899 km, but the injection system seems totally buggered. I'm getting higher fuel consumption, feels like I've lost power, and it keeps stalling at idle. Plus, puffs of smoke appear when I accelerate. Any ideas before I consider drastic measures?

Could be a few things. Have you checked for any obvious air leaks in the system? Also, when was the last time you did any fuel filter maintenance? A blocked filter can cause similar symptoms. Have you checked the cable or plug connections?

Air leaks... hmm, not specifically, no. I will check. You mean around the injectors themselves? The cable/plug connections, which components in particular?

Yes, check around the injector connections and fuel lines for any hissing or signs of diesel residue. And for cable or plug connections, start with the ones related to the fuel injectors and the fuel pump. If you're not comfortable digging around, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. It could save you money in the long run. A likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection.

Appreciate the help. Turns out you were spot on - faulty connection. A workshop sorted it for 95€. Runs like a dream now!
