Hilux engine stalling at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota Hilux owner reported engine stalling at idle, with the check engine light indicating an idle air control system issue. The suspected cause was a heavily contaminated intake. Another individual with a similar experience suggested that a faulty air valve might be the problem. The owner confirmed the issue was indeed a bad idle air control valve and a contaminated intake, which was resolved at a workshop.

Interesting. The engine feels like it's struggling, like you described. Could you give more details about the problem you faced and how it was resolved?

It was a faulty air valve causing all sorts of idle problems. Based on what you said about the error codes, it sounds like you're having the same experience. If you're not too experienced with this kind of repair, I would recommend consulting with a workshop. It solved the problem for me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems the air valve is the problem. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed it was the bad idle air control valve and a heavily contaminated intake. The repair cost me 425€. Your advice helped me narrow down the possibilities.

I have a Hilux, not sure of the year, and I remember a similar issue. It was like the engine was gasping for air. Is it like a cough when you try to breathe?
