Hilux Power Loss Chip Tuning

I've got a 2002 Toyota Hilux with a gasoline engine that's losing power, and there's an error code about unauthorized modification. I'm thinking it's a faulty chip tuning. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar. I have a Hilux as well, and I had similar issues a while back – loss of power and the check engine light popping up. Did you recently get any work done on the engine or the computer? Any idea if a previous owner messed with the ECU?

I'm not sure about previous modifications, but this started after a service at a non-authorized center. What error codes did you get, and what did you do to fix it?

Mine turned out to be some dodgy aftermarket chip tuning as well, probably trying to squeeze more power out of it. It messed up the engine management system pretty badly. I'd suggest taking it to a reputable workshop with experience in vehicle diagnostics. They'll be able to pinpoint the problem and either re-flash the ECU or replace the chip if necessary.

I took it to a specialized workshop, and they confirmed it was a compromised chip tuning module. Recalibrating the ECU fixed it, and it cost 180€. The engine power is back to normal now.
