Hilux Rain Light Sensor Fault

I'm experiencing a perplexing issue with my 2015 Toyota Hilux diesel. It's showing a rain-light sensor fault, and the automatic functions seem to be malfunctioning. There's an error stored in the memory, the automatic wiping feature during rain is absent, the automatic headlight control isn't working, and even the speedometer dimming is inactive. Strangely, the lights are switching on without any action. My Hilux has a mileage of 30854 km. Has anyone encountered a similar problem, and could offer some insights? My initial suspicion leans toward a sensor calibration issue, but I'd appreciate any guidance before delving deeper.

Whoa, that sounds super frustrating! I have a Hilux too (the same model, just don't remember the year), and I had something kinda similar happen last year. The rain sensor went bonkers! I noticed the wipers going nuts even when it wasn't raining, and the auto headlights were all over the place. I got a notification in my dash. Did you check for bubbles under the gel pad on the windshield where the sensor sits? I've heard those can mess with the sensor's accuracy. By 'error stored in the memory', do you mean an error code showed up?

That's an interesting point about the bubbles, and it's something I haven't considered. Thank you for the suggestion! I will certainly inspect the gel pad for any imperfections. When I say "error stored in the memory" I mean that when I checked the error memory, the error regarding the faulty light-rain-sensor was stored.

Ah, gotcha about the error memory. Yeah, definitely check for those bubbles under the gel pad. That was my issue, almost exactly your symptoms, the error codes and all. I wouldn't try messing with the sensor calibration yourself if you're not super confident. Honestly, save yourself the headache and just take it to a workshop. They'll know how to handle it properly and replace the pad if needed.

Many thanks for confirming my suspicion and for the advice! It's reassuring to know someone else experienced something similar. I followed your advice and took it to the workshop. As it turns out, the gel pad was indeed the culprit! Bubbles had formed beneath it, disrupting the sensor's readings. The pad was replaced, and recalibration was performed. The total repair cost was a reasonable 62€. Everything is working perfectly again now. I am really grateful.
