Honda City belt tensioner failure
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Honda City hybrid with 225,380 km experienced a belt handover issue, suspected to be caused by a faulty belt tensioner pulley. The problem resulted in the mechanism completely failing. While the belt tensioner was identified as the most likely cause, other components like the idler pulley were also considered. A mechanic confirmed the tensioner as the issue, and a repair was quoted to resolve the problem.

Yeah, it's completely shot. As for prior incidents, nothing really stands out. Just normal wear and tear I guess. Is it definitely the tensioner? Or could it be something else causing the belt handover to fail? Thinking maybe the idler pulley perhaps?

Given the information provided, a defective belt tensioner is the most probable cause. However, without a thorough diagnostic inspection, I cannot definitively exclude other potential factors. I recommend you to consult a certified mechanic.

Thanks for the confirmation and advice. Dropped it off at the workshop and they confirmed it's the tensioner, like you said. Quoted me 455€ for the repair, parts and labor included. Hopefully, this fixes it, getting tired of it. New belt tensioner should sort it out.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with your belt tensioner. To confirm, are you stating that the belt handover mechanism is completely non-functional? Could you please elaborate on any prior incidents that may have preceded this failure?
