Honda Fit knock sensor issue

My 2005 Honda Fit with a gasoline engine is acting up. The check engine light is on, fuel consumption is terrible, and the engine's idling roughly at 212036 km. I'm guessing it's the knock sensor, maybe a bad wire or connector? Has anyone seen this? I read the knock sensor helps the ECU determine ignition timing, and if it fails, the car runs poorly.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Corsa – check engine light, rough idle, the whole deal. It turned out to be a corroded connector on one of the sensors. You mention a bad wire or connector – have you looked closely at the knock sensor's wiring harness and the connector itself? Maybe wiggle it and see if anything changes? It might be a simple fix.

I took a peek, but it's cramped. The wires looked okay, but the connector... it's hard to get a good look. What should I be looking for on the connector? Any signs of corrosion or damage?

On my Corsa, the corrosion was obvious – greenish/white powdery stuff on the metal contacts inside the connector. Also, the plastic housing of the connector was cracked. Given your symptoms and suspicion of the knock sensor, it's worth a proper inspection. Maybe visit a workshop and let them look; they'll be able to diagnose it and replace the sensor and wiring if needed. Safer than messing with it yourself if you're not 100% sure.

I appreciate the help. I dropped it off at the workshop, and you were right. It was the knock sensor – the connector was corroded. They cleaned it and replaced the sensor. Cost me about 95€. Runs great now!
