Honda Grace outside temperature sensor issue

Hey, I've got a weird problem with my 2014 Honda Grace (gasoline engine). The outside temperature reading seems totally off, and it's throwing an error code. My AC won't kick on, which is super annoying, and I noticed even my windshield washer spray nozzles froze the other day even though it wasn't that cold. Also, the heated mirrors aren't working. Could a faulty outside temp sensor really cause all this? I'm thinking it might be the cable or plug connection but I'm not sure where to start looking.

Summary of the thread

The 2014 Honda Grace had an issue with an inaccurate outside temperature reading, causing the air conditioning to malfunction, windshield washer nozzles to freeze, and heated mirrors to stop working. The problem was suspected to be related to the outside temperature sensor or its connections. It was advised to inspect the wiring harness and connector for any damage or corrosion. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor, restoring all affected systems to proper functionality.

Greetings! Your assessment regarding the outside temperature sensor appears plausible given the cascade of symptoms you are experiencing. The sensor's input is often utilized by multiple vehicle systems, including the air conditioning, windshield washer pre-heating (if equipped), and heated mirrors. Therefore, an erroneous reading can indeed precipitate the issues you've detailed. Before condemning the sensor itself, I suggest a thorough inspection of the wiring harness and connector associated with it. Are there any visible signs of corrosion, damage, or loose connections?

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll definitely check the wiring and connector more closely. Any tips on exactly where to find the sensor and connector on the Grace? I'm not super familiar with this car yet, and I want to make sure I'm poking around in the right spot. Also, is there a good way to test the sensor itself, assuming the wiring looks okay?

Acknowledged. Locating the sensor typically involves consulting the vehicle's service manual, as the precise location may vary. However, a common placement is within the front bumper area or near the radiator grille. Once located, a multimeter can be employed to assess the sensor's resistance values at varying temperatures; these values can then be compared against the manufacturer's specifications. Considering the potential for complications and the breadth of affected systems, I would advise consulting a qualified technician. It may prove to be a more expedient and cost-effective course of action.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – it was the outside temperature sensor. They replaced it for about 95€, and everything's working perfectly now. AC is blasting cold air, the mirrors heat up, and the error code is gone. Really appreciate the help!
