Honda Grace VANOS issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Honda Grace is experiencing issues with the check engine light and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be related to the inlet VANOS system. Possible causes include a faulty camshaft solenoid valve, power supply issues, or oil sludge affecting the variable timing mechanism. It is recommended to have a professional workshop diagnose and address the problem to prevent further damage, as similar issues have been resolved by replacing faulty parts.

Thanks for the quick reply! Oil sludge... that's a thought. I've been pretty religious about oil changes, but maybe it's worth a closer look. Did you end up tackling it yourself, or did you take it to a shop? What was the fix, and roughly, what did it set you back?

Given the symptoms and your suspicion of a faulty solenoid or power supply, I'd strongly suggest having a workshop diagnose it properly. Without the correct diagnostic tools, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. Ignoring it could lead to further damage to the inlet camshaft. In my case, the workshop was able to diagnose the issue and replace the faulty parts and I had no more issues after that.

Appreciate the advice! Sounds like a trip to the shop is in order. I was hoping to avoid it, but better safe than sorry. I will share the final cost, but the mechanic estimated 250€ . Thanks again!

I had a similar issue with my Grace. Same symptoms: check engine light and increased fuel consumption. The VANOS system is quite sensitive to oil quality and pressure. Have you checked for any signs of oil sludge? The variable timing mechanism can get clogged, causing these problems.
