Honda Greiz Blower Fan's Mysterious On-Off Struggles

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2019 Honda Greiz (51.5K km, gas engine). The air blower is acting up, sometimes barely pushes any air, other times works fine. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with a similar blower issue in their Greiz? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

The 2019 Honda Greiz is experiencing inconsistent airflow from the blower fan, sometimes barely pushing air and other times functioning normally. A similar issue in a 2016 Honda City was caused by debris in the blower motor, a failing resistor, and worn-out motor bearings, leading to intermittent operation. The suggested solution is to replace the blower motor assembly, as delaying repairs could lead to further damage, such as affecting nearby wiring. Prompt attention to the issue can prevent additional problems and restore proper ventilation.

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 Honda City last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, inconsistent airflow from the blower. Turned out the blower motor had collected quite a bit of debris and the resistor was failing. When I took it to the garage, they found that the motor bearings were worn out too, causing the intermittent operation. Had to get the entire blower motor assembly replaced as it wasn't worth fixing just the bearings. It was a full day's job since they had to remove the dashboard partially to access the unit. It's not a super serious issue, but it can get worse if left unattended, potentially leaving you without cabin ventilation. In my case, the heat from the failing resistor had started to affect nearby wiring, so it was good I got it fixed when I did. Worth getting it checked by a reliable mechanic soon. The symptoms won't fix themselves, and they usually get worse over time. Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the blower motor and resistor issues. I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix? I've been worried about potential damage to nearby components too, so it's good to know I should probably get this sorted sooner rather than later.

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Since you asked, yeah, I had it fixed and spent 365€ for the repair (blower motor replacement). I'm happy to report everything's working perfectly now, no more weird airflow issues! The air comes out strong and steady, just like it should. The mechanic did a great job, and honestly, it was worth every penny. I've had zero problems with the ventilation system since the repair, which was such a relief after dealing with that annoying intermittent airflow. You're smart to be concerned about potential damage to other parts. That's exactly why I suggested getting it checked out quickly. The blower motor issue can definitely cause problems with surrounding components if left unfixed, learned that the hard way when my mechanic showed me how the heat was affecting nearby wiring. Just a friendly tip, don't wait too long like I did. The sooner you get it sorted, the less likely you'll have any secondary issues to deal with. Plus, it's just so much nicer driving with properly working AC! Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks so much for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my car to a new mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was the blower motor, but thankfully caught it before any wiring damage happened. Cost me a bit less than yours at 290€, probably because we caught it earlier. The whole experience was actually pretty good! The mechanic was upfront about everything and even showed me the old motor, it was pretty gunked up with debris. They got it done in about 4 hours, and wow, what a difference! The air flow is super strong and consistent now. No more fiddling with the controls hoping for air to come through! Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for pushing me to get it checked out, you probably saved me from a bigger headache down the road!
