Honda Stream central locking failure

I'm having an issue with my 2003 Honda Stream, gasoline engine. The central locking system isn't working. The doors can't be locked or unlocked via the remote or the interior switch. I suspect a faulty door contact signal. Has anyone encountered a similar problem?

Summary of the thread

The central locking system of a 2003 Honda Stream is not functioning, neither through the remote nor the interior switch. The suspected cause is a faulty door contact signal. Possible causes include a defective door switch, a break in the wiring harness, or a faulty actuator. It is recommended to check the fuses first and listen for any sound from the actuators. If no sound is heard, it may be necessary to consult a mechanic to diagnose and repair the issue, as it could involve complex wiring problems.

Hey! Sounds frustrating. Something similar happened on my old Civic, turned out to be a dodgy wire in the door. First, have you checked the fuses related to the car alarm and central locking system? That's always the easiest place to start. Also, can you hear anything at all when you try to lock/unlock? A faint click, maybe? That would suggest the actuators are getting power, which would point to something else, like a faulty door switch or sensor.

Thanks for the quick response. I've checked the relevant fuses, and they're fine. When I try to lock or unlock the doors, there's no sound from the actuators. Could you explain how to diagnose a defective door switch or sensor? Does this require special equipment?

Okay, no sound from the actuators kinda narrows it down. It could still be the actuators themselves, but a faulty door switch or a break in the wiring harness feeding the signal to lock/unlock is more probable. Diagnosing the door switch without proper tools can be tricky. You'd ideally want a multimeter to check for continuity, but even then, pinpointing the exact location of the fault can be a pain. Given the symptoms and your description, and since you're not hearing anything at all, I'd suggest having a workshop take a look. They'll have the right tools to trace the wiring and properly diagnose the issue. Could save you time and potential headaches!

I appreciate the advice. I consulted a mechanic, as you recommended. The issue was a defective cable and plug connection, as suspected. The repair, including parts and labor, cost 95€. Thanks again for your help.
