Honda XRV oil pressure light and engine noise
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Honda XRV with 193,000 km is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and loud engine noises. Despite recent oil and filter changes, the issue persists, leading to suspicion of an oil pump problem. It is advised to stop driving the vehicle and have it inspected by a mechanic to prevent further damage. Upon inspection, the issue was confirmed to be a faulty oil pump, requiring replacement to avoid more severe engine damage.

My XRV doesn't have an actual oil pressure gauge, just the warning light. As for the oil viscosity, I believe the shop used 5W-30 during the last oil change. Is there anything else I should check myself before taking it to a mechanic?

If you don't have a gauge and it's making noises, I'd say stop driving it immediately. With my Astra, it ended up being oil pump failure that damaged the engine bearings. Best get it to a workshop before things get worse. They'll be able to properly diagnose it. Good luck!

I took it to the workshop today, and you were right – it was the oil pump. They're quoting me about 755€ to replace it. Not thrilled about the cost, but I'm glad I caught it before it caused more serious damage. Appreciate the help!

That sounds rough! I had a similar thing happen with my old Opel Astra, although it was a diesel. Same symptoms - oil pressure light and awful noises. Have you checked the oil pressure gauge, if your XRV has one? What kind of oil viscosity are you using?
