Hot-running VW Sharan Diesel 2011 with warning light and low coolant level

Hello folks! Is there anyone here who is familiar with a 2011 VW Sharan Diesel (just under 131,000km)? Mine has a warning light on the speedometer and it gets too hot, especially the coolant level seems to be constantly too low. Has anyone ever experienced the same thing and can give me a tip on what to do? I didn't have such a good experience the last time I went to a mechanic, so I'm asking you first. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I drive a 2014 VW Touran Diesel and once had something similar. I had a warning light on the speedometer and the coolant level was constantly too low. I later found out that there was a problem with the cooling system - there was probably a leak somewhere that was constantly draining the coolant. I had to take it to the garage and they found the leak and replaced the hose, which was probably torn. So check whether coolant is leaking somewhere under your car. If you have symptoms like this, it's better not to continue driving the car, as this can be a serious problem. So, don't ignore it and take it to a garage quickly.

Thanks for the tip about the cooling system, that could actually be the problem. To be honest, I'd like to try it myself first before going back to the garage. Of course, I completely understand that you want to try it yourself first. When I had the leak fixed, it cost me €625 - it wasn't cheap, but at least the component described was repaired properly afterwards. Since then I've had no more problems with the low coolant level, everything is running smoothly again. So I would say it was definitely worth it. Good luck with it!

Thanks again for the info. 625 sounds quite expensive, but when I think about how dangerous it is to drive with a constantly overheating car, it seems worth the money.
