Hyundai i10 gear shift indicator failure

My 2014 Hyundai i10 with a gasoline engine, nearing 200k km, has a completely bonkers gear shift indicator. It's showing nothing, won't engage gears properly, slipping, and making awful grinding noises when it tries to shift. The speedometer's gear selection display is dead too. Error code popped up. Anyone seen this before I start tearing it apart?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my i10. Was it also doing weird stuff, like the gearbox feeling like it couldn't decide what gear it wanted?

Weird stuff is an understatement! Like, hesitating and then slamming into gear, or generally acting like it's got a mind of its own? Did it also affect the display, showing no gear?

Exactly like that, hesitating and generally acting up. Yes the display was also faulty, showed nothing. I took it to a workshop, and they said it was a defective control unit. Maybe check that out?

Appreciate the heads-up. Sounds like I'm in for it. I dropped it off at the workshop today. They've confirmed the control unit is toast and quoted me about 1000€ for the repair. Ouch! Thanks for the help.
