Hyundai i40 EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Hyundai i40 with a diesel engine exhibited symptoms such as reduced engine power, a check engine light, excessive smoke during acceleration, rough running, high fuel consumption, jerking during acceleration, and a loud hissing noise. These issues were suspected to be related to the EGR valve. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the EGR valve was jammed and needed replacement, which resolved the problems.

Vacuum leaks, huh? Where exactly should I be looking? I'm not that experienced under the hood.

Without knowing your specific engine layout, it's hard to say exactly. But generally, check all the hoses connected to the intake manifold and around the EGR valve itself. If you're not comfortable, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop before it causes any more damage.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the shop; turned out the EGR valve was jammed solid. They replaced it, and it cost me 355€. Runs like new now!

That sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms with my Opel Astra, though it was a petrol engine. Have you checked for any obvious vacuum leaks? That can sometimes mimic EGR valve problems.
