Hyundai ix20 rough running engine

I'm experiencing issues with my 2018 Hyundai ix20, gasoline engine, with 169785 km. The engine runs rough, stalls at idle, and the check engine light is on. It also jerks during acceleration. I suspect a defective ignition coil, possibly a cable or plug connection issue. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Summary of the thread

The 2018 Hyundai ix20 is experiencing rough engine performance, stalling at idle, and jerking during acceleration, with the check engine light on. The suspected cause is a defective ignition coil or a cable connection issue. It is advised to have the vehicle diagnosed at a workshop to accurately identify the faulty component, which in this case was confirmed to be a defective ignition coil with a faulty cable connection.

Hey! Rough running, eh? Sounds familiar. I've got an ix20 myself, though a bit older, and I had similar symptoms a while back. Engine stalling, check engine light flashing... turned out to be a dodgy coil pack. Before you jump to conclusions, did you happen to notice any specific cylinder misfiring? Any OBD codes you can share? Knowing the exact codes might help narrow things down a bit.

Thank you for your input. I have not yet checked the OBD codes. Is it possible to determine the faulty coil without diagnostics? Is there any easy way to find which cylinder is affected?

Right, well, going in blind isn't ideal, but there are ways, though I wouldn't recommend them unless you're really stuck. You could try the old 'disconnect the coil one by one' trick, but honestly, that's a recipe for more headaches than it's worth. You risk frying something if you're not careful, and it's not exactly precise. Look, with those symptoms and your mileage, and given that I had the exact same issue, I'd strongly suggest popping down to a reputable workshop and getting it properly diagnosed. Seriously, save yourself the hassle and potential damage. They'll pinpoint the bad coil in minutes.

Understood. Thank you for the advice; I will take it to a workshop for diagnostics. The repair ended up being a defective ignition coil; the cable connection was faulty. The cost was 95€.
