Hyundai ix35 Transmission Issues

I'm having some serious issues with my 2015 Hyundai ix35, gasoline engine. I've got almost 90k km on it (89745 km to be precise) and recently the check engine light and the transmission indicator light have both come on. The gearbox feels like it's slipping, the shifts are really unclean, and I'm even hearing grinding noises sometimes when it changes gears. I hooked it up to a code reader and it's throwing an error related to the automatic transmission torque converter lock-up clutch. From what I've been reading, it sounds like the automatic transmission converter might be defective. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm worried about a potential converter fault. This clutch problem with the automatic gearbox is stressing me out.

Summary of the thread

The 2015 Hyundai ix35 is experiencing transmission issues, including a slipping gearbox, unclean shifts, and grinding noises, accompanied by check engine and transmission indicator lights. The problem is linked to a defective automatic transmission torque converter lock-up clutch. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle assessed by a professional workshop to confirm the diagnosis and prevent further damage. Repairing the defective converter is necessary to resolve the issue.

I understand your concern regarding the issues you are experiencing with your Hyundai ix35. I previously encountered a similar problem with my Opel Insignia, which had a comparable automatic transmission converter failure. The symptoms you describe, including the check engine light, transmission indicator, and shifting issues, are consistent with a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. The grinding noises are particularly indicative of internal damage within the automatic transmission.

Thanks for the quick response! It's good to know I'm not alone. When your Opel Insignia had this converter failure, did it also throw specific error codes pointing to the torque converter? And how long did it take for the symptoms to really become noticeable?

Yes, the Opel Insignia did indeed generate specific error codes related to the torque converter lock-up clutch. The symptoms gradually worsened over a period of approximately two weeks before I sought professional diagnosis. Given the similarities in our experiences, I strongly advise taking your Hyundai ix35 to a reputable workshop for a thorough assessment. Continuing to drive the vehicle in its current condition may exacerbate the damage and potentially increase the repair cost.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. They confirmed the automatic transmission converter is defective. The repair is going to cost me about 2120€, but at least I know what's wrong now. Really appreciate your help!
